Commentary

This funny top ten list is a selection of Will Smith statements about the slapping incident at the 2022 Academy Awards, presented alongside a variety of "Other Voices."

Most of the Will Smith statements listed above are of the apologetic variety, where he expressed genuine remorse about the Oscars incident in an Instagram post issued after the most of the dust had settled. A couple of the statements (items 4 and 3) are from Smith's April 1 statement of resignation from the Academy. Item 8 was from his acceptance speech for the Best Actor award.

Frankly, we've always viewed Will Smith as a narcissist, so it was somewhat surprising to see such contrite statements attributed to him. He even acknowledged that the incident "deprived other nominees and winners of their opportunity to celebrate and be celebrated for their extraordinary work." The penitent apology doesn't erase what happened but it is nice to see a person take responsibility for his behavior, especially given that we don't often see that these days.

The events are serious, of course, but here at klugness.com we're always looking for a humorous angle, so we've presented the Smith statements alongside a variety of "other voices" from many perspectives and walks of life.

Ah, who are we fooling? The "other voices" are all statements made by a famous narcissist who's not as keen to take responsibility for his misbehavior as I Am Legend was. Perhaps he will someday face consequences for his bad behavior!
