Commentary

According to Wikipedia, the childhood game that is the inspiration for this funny top ten list is generally known in North America as "telephone", or as Chinese Whispers in the UK, Australia, and New Zealand. The theme of this satirical version of the "telephone" game is revelations from the January 6 hearings.

For those who may not have played the telephone game, it begins when a person whispers a message to the first person in a line or circle of players. That person then whispers the same message to the next player, and so on until the message reaches the last player in the circle or line. That person then announces the message out loud. There really isn't a winner—the entertaining nature of the game is that the original message usually gets garbled in an amusing way by the time it makes its way through the line.

The game has various names, but we settled on "broken telephone" for purposes of this funny top ten list because (1) we needed to settle on just one name, and (2) "broken telephone" is the English translation of the game's name in Malaysia, Israel, Finland, and Greece, according to Wikipedia.
