In our continuing effort to poke fun at Secretary of Defense nominee Pete Hegseth, we decided to take advantage of the fact that this is the time of year when we all get our Spotify Wrapped listsyou know, the artists and songs you've listened to the most this year on Spotify.
So anyway...we thought it would be a super fun exercise to imagine what songs might be on Pete Hegseth's Spotify Wrapped list. Only thing is, none of the songs are ones that he would actually pick, because they're all about drinking and running around, which he would never do. Go figure!
A course there are lots of songs about drinking and cheating to pick from, but since we're 100% old farts here at klugness.com, most of the ones we picked are from wayyy back in the day. In fact, the only one that came out in the last five years is Chapel Hart's 2021 release "You Can Have Him Jolene" (item 10), which we felt we had to pick because we thought the name was so funny. There are three others from 2000 or later, but the other six go as far back as the 1940s to the 1970s. Doh!
The one with the best lyrics, in our humble opinion, is "Before He Cheats." The one that seems most ridiculous is 1976's "Torn Between Two Lovers" which expresses a woman's regret that she hurt her man when she sought love outside their relationship. She seems to be asking for sympathy or understanding, even though she acknowledged that "loving both of you is breaking all the rules." Weird!
We don't know what Pete Hegseth's preferred drink is so we've picked songs that reflect a variety of liquors and wines. And of course we picked one about morning drinking (item 1). Enjoy!
