Commentary
This funny top ten list consists of spells/charms from the Harry Potter books/movies, mixed together in equal parts with legal terms.
Ask yourself the following question: Would a wand-wielding wizard exclaim "Stupefy!" or "Subpoena!" (items 4 and 3)? Or...what about "Confundo!" vs. "Nolo Contendere!" (items 8 and 7)? Perhaps it's hard to tell which of these two is a spell, as the smattering of five latinish legal terms embedded in this list (see the odd-numbered items) sound like they could possibly be Harry Potter spells, no? After all, "nolo contendere" sounds awfully bold and authoritative even though it means "no contest."
Yeah, that's the gist of the humor. Note we're doing a bit of this silly material as a type of post-election "palate cleanser." We firmly believe that the accompanying image helps bring our "spell or legal phrase?" point to life, as it nudges the humor meter to the point of maybe perhaps actually being funny...but of course your mileage may vary.
Frankly, it's the type of humor that might've caused you to laugh out loud in one instant, but then made you feel a strong sense of embarrassment at having laughed in the next instant. Yeah, to borrow a quote from Avatar, "I see you."
This is the second of four planned lists on this whimsical Harry Potter themethe next two are coming soon to a boutique website near you!
