Commentary

This funny top ten list is our second installment in a series of fake, incorrect translations of the Latin phrase "Veni, vidi, vici" which translates into English as "I came, I saw, I conquered." According to Wikipedia, the phrase is popularly attributed to Julius Caesar.

Some of the items on the top ten list are silly variations on the actual translation (items 10, 5, and 4). Item 8 is based on the thin connection that the Latin word "vidi" sounds sorta like "NVIDIA." A few of the items are based on song lyrics, including Yellow Submarine by the Beatles (Item 2) and Slow Ride by the Beastie Boys (items 7 and 1). (Our recent series on Things We Can Learn from Beastie Boys Songs (List 214) is lingering in our minds and keeps popping up in unrelated top ten lists.) We're not 100% sure, but we think we picked the song lyrics because they fit the "three things" motif implied by "veni, vidi, vici."

Yup, we've had fun writing multiple top ten lists about fake translations of well known phrases in foreign languages, but we think we'll move on to other themes at this time. Whew!
