Commentary
This funny top ten list is our first installment in a series of fake, incorrect translations of the Latin phrase "Veni, vidi, vici" which translates into English as "I came, I saw, I conquered." According to Wikipedia, the phrase is popularly attributed to Julius Caesar.
Some of the items on the top ten list are variations on the actual translation (items 10, 8, and 3) while others conjure up more modern images (items 6, 5, and 4). Item 9 introduces the amusing concept that perhaps the phrase is from a children's book in ancient Rome. Item 2 is a flashback to our earlier series on incorrect translations of Voulez-vous coucher avec moi, ce soir? from the 1975 Patti Labelle song "Lady Marmalade ."
Items 7 and 3 are out of left field, and item 1 is a lyric from an old Beastie Boys song (Sure Shot )" that fits the "triplet phrase" motif. Frankly we must have still had Beastie Boys on the brain from our recent series on Things We Can Learn from Beastie Boys Songs (List 214) . In Item 8 we threw in a bonus reference to a line from William Shakespeare's "Julius Caesar."
