Commentary

During the 40 minute delay before the Musk-Trump conversation began on X Spaces on August 12, 2024, Elon Musk posted that X was going through a "massive" DDoS attack. Our skepticism that a DDoS attack was the true reason for the delay led to the rather ridiculous fake DDoS names shown on this quirky top ten list.

A Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attack is a type of cyber attack that involves overwhelming the web server with internet traffic that is designed to squeeze out legitimate users from accessing the web services. Sure, that could be what happened on Monday evening, but the fact that the rest of X seemed to function normally during the delay makes us skeptical that Musk is giving us the straight story.
