Commentary
Recent reports of an "atmospheric river" affecting California weather have led us to wonder what other as-yet-unnamed new weather phenomena may be in the queue. Thus we include in this funny top ten list one actual newfangled weather pattern, and then make up nine more. Our Veranda Grande runneth over.
There's some nerdy wordplay here regarding an actual weather pattern (the "wedge") that is rendered into a salad by pairing it with another carefully selected word (item 8). There are also references to a couple of California foods that are miraculously transformed into weather events by hitching them to known weather phenomena (items 5 and 2). Finally, we threw in references to environmental issues (item 7), awkward Oscar events (item 1), and a famous person who would no doubt melt if she were aware that we're making fun of her (item 3).
