About klugness.com: The website for funny top ten lists and other satire

Klugness.com went live in October 2022 as an outlet for sharing funny top ten lists that had previously been shared via email. Thanks for checking us out!

The content of the lists is generally humor based on current events, presented in a David-Letterman-style top ten list format. We don't typically cover timeless items like how to behave in an elevator or differences between men and women. The "born on" date of the content dates back as far as April 2019, as we began creating humorous content a few years prior to the website's launch.

In the banner (or below on smaller devices such as iPhones) you can access all of the 200+ funny top ten lists (see the All Top Ten Lists archive link), which shows the title/topic of each list.

A key historical theme is poking fun at President Trump (now former President Trump), as about one third of the lists have an underlying Trump theme (see Trump-Themed Lists). (Alas, former President Trump's admirers won't enjoy these.) Since the tall guy failed to win a second term, the mix of content has begun to evolve as we seek new targets to make fun of, though the August 2022 Mar-a-Lago raid led to a spike in Trump-related content. Hey, we couldn't resist.

There's also a hyperlink in the banner for the iconic May 2020 Now vs. Then series, which humorously compares the strange 2020 pandemic times to back in the day (generally the 1970s to the 1990s). This series of 10 funny top ten lists was created in May 2020, which feels sooo forever ago.

These themed lists can be viewed separately at the special links, but they're also included (mixed in) among the 100+ lists in the All Top Ten Lists hyperlink, along with various other funny top ten lists that don't fit into those particular themes.

Several additional themes are under construction and currently contain limited content or no content. At website launch, all of the content is available at the All Top Ten Lists archive link, but over time new content and themes may be added that are not funny top ten lists, including: Imagining Things Blog (live as of November 2022), Web-Related Topics, Quote Matching, Bible Matching, Floating Quotes, Quote Mashups, Dueling Songs, and Financial Videos. We anticipate rolling out the pending themes in the order shown, as the Imagining Things blog recently went live, while the Financial Videos may not be ready until hell freezes over, lol.

"Imagining Things" (launched on November 7, 2022) is a type of one-way blog where Klugmeister makes up stuff out of thin air, while visitors are not permitted to post comments in any way, shape, or form. (We know that's not how blogs usually work, but we don't care.) Since these blog entries are not the main focus of the site, we anticipate posting new content on a semi-occasional basis (i.e., whenever we're struck with inspiration). In other words, the weekly frequency of the first several entries may have been a head fake.

Once we get it programmed, the "Floating Quotes" theme will springboard from the content of certain funny top ten lists, but will be presented in a different, more visual format. We'll say more about the other themes as they're closer to ready for rollout. As for Financial Videos, we're currently in contact with several famous actors who are eager to participate in our amateur videos on a pro-bono basis. Er....nah, we don't know anyone famous.

Why klugness, you ask? Yeah, it wasn't our first choice. We tried for fairly generic domain names that would allow for a variety of content (e.g., theJunction, theDepot, theHub) but found that all of the English words we tried had already been taken (including words preceded by "the"). Mind you, we only tried 20 or so words, but the fact that all were already taken led us to make the leap of logic that the entire dictionary is off limits. We also tried words in other langages (Latin and German) with the same result. Yes, we know that's not proof that all the words in the dictionary are already taken, but it definitely squelched our motivation to keep trying additional words.

So...we eventually settled on klugness (pronounced "kloog-ness"). It's a combination of the German word for "clever" and the English suffix "-ness". (Naturally, "cleverness" and "klugheit" were already taken.) It doesn't sound very catchy but it's starting to grow on us.

If it becomes too tedious to explain the meaning of the website to friends and acquaintances, perhaps just tell them that klugness.com is the website of a German soccer team? Not only does it sound plausible, but it sounds downright cool!

Thanks for visiting our site.
